Welcome

The First International Conference on Media and Challenges of the Arabian Gulf

Introduction

The Higher Education Council at the Ministry of Education in the Kingdom of Bahrain supports scientific and community activities in the light of the scientific development taking place in the kingdom leading to the formulation of the policy of scientific research, which contributes to building the knowledge of society, and making scientific research a tool for economic and social development and transfer of knowledge to the sectors of production and services.

Gulf University is keen to be an integral part of the development of the educational process in the Kingdom. The university strives at implementing the policies, activities and events in the service of Bahrain's strategic vision in the field of education. It adopts a scientific methodology in analyzing the reality of scientific research and its future aspirations. This aims at creating a knowledge economy based on fostering a culture of innovation, entrepreneurship, and the adoption of research that achieves sustainable economic, social and environmental development in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

In accordance with the directives of the Higher Council of Education, Gulf University will seek to launch an international conference under the title of ‘Media and the challenges of the Arabian Gulf’ since the Gulf region is going through events and crises and the conference contributes at solving problems and offering practical solutions to get out of these crises.

Idea of the Conference

The Arab Gulf is considered as the cornerstone of any current and future renaissance in the Arab world in general and the Islamic world in particular due to its oil wealth, strategic sites, great development achievements and a genuine Arab history. Because of its growing importance it was natural to see that it faces many challenges and aspirations especially at the security and economic levels. In fact the economic challenge is closely related to the security challenge. Conflicts and incidents of terrorism drain heavy economic resources and affect growth and development. Low oil prices and low rates of development are exploited by extremists and terrorists. Media, nationally and internationally, represents a common denominator in the challenges of the Arab Gulf in general and the security and economic challenges in particular, and it became known to the public the role that media plays in encouraging extremism and terrorism or challenging it. Media can either hamper economic development or support the national economy.

The conference which is entitled ‘Media and challenges of the Arabian Gulf’ was initiated by the first media meeting organized by Gulf University in May 2017, which was a remarkable success due to the participation of a number of experts from the fields of Media, economy and law in the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Arab world. The meeting resulted in a number of important conclusions and recommendations. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shaikh Khalid Bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, sent an appreciation letter to Gulf University for its recommendations. The university stressed the need to build a unified Arab Gulf media strategy that can be extended internationally, to combat terrorism. Interior ministers and councils of ministers can benefit from this. Also, it will be beneficial to seek the help of GCC and Arab talented people living abroad to support the moderate religious discourse and promote peace and stability in the Arabian Gulf.

The meeting’s most important resolution was to transform it into an international conference in the Kingdom of Bahrain to discuss in details Media issues.

Rationale of the Conference

Represents the Arab Gulf, reflecting its oil wealth, strategic sites, great development achievements and a genuine Arab history, the cornerstone of any current and future renaissance in the Arab world and the Islamic world in particular, and for this growing importance of the Arabian Gulf it was natural to face many challenges and aspirations especially at the security and economic levels. It is a coincidence that the economic challenge is closely related to the security challenge. Conflicts and incidents of terrorism drain heavy economic resources and affect growth and development. Low oil prices and low rates of development are In both cases, the media - whatever its shape - Gulf, Arab and international - represents a common denominator in the challenges of the Arab Gulf in general and the security and economic challenge in particular, and it became known to the public and private that the media's complex and double roles Which was born out of the womb of the first media forum organized by the Gulf University last year in May 2017 on the media and the challenges of the Arab Gulf, which was a remarkable success with the participation of a number of media experts and the economy and law in the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Arab world. The forum resulted in a number of important conclusions and recommendations, The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, sent a letter of thanks to the Gulf University for its recommendations of the process, which stressed the need to build esters. Wagih media Gulf unified Arab and international level to deal with terrorism in the media and intellectually, and the need for the media benefit from the Arab strategy to combat terrorism, both at the level of interior ministers or councils of ministers and the importance of reviewing in dealing with the media to the events of terrorism, and the recruitment of Gulf and Arab competencies abroad to support the speech

The forum concluded with an important recommendation: to transform this forum into an international conference on the land of the Kingdom of Bahrain to discuss its discussion in detail in order to stabilize our Arab and Gulf logic
